The Toyota FJ Cruiser, originally released in the 1960’s as the FJ40 but later revised in 2005, is set to end production at the end of this year. We’ve noticed that this is before<\/em> the Land Rover Defender original design ends production sometime next year, and, as Landy fans, this pleases us somewhat.<\/p>\n

The FJ Cruiser was Toyota’s response to a rugged, capable, off-road, vehicle. What was once only meant to be a concept later turned out to be surprisingly popular, with over 200,000 sold.<\/p>\n

However, with recent poor sales, dropping from 60,000 per annum in 2006 to 13,000 last year, Toyota have decided to pull the plug on what was once their follow-up to Rod Millen’s ‘one-off’ retro cruiser; eight years later.<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, Toyota are sending off their classic FJ with a special ‘ultimate edition’ which will feature a Heritage Blue paint-job and a white grille, reflective of its 1960’s FJ40 elder brother; of which the FJ acquired its rough and tough DNA along with its inspiration and design.<\/p>\n
