				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>As you know, the our <a title="Film Live" href="http://www.nexi.tv/filmlive/" target="_blank">Film Live</a> team are currently covering the <a title="NAB" href="http://www.nabshow.com" target="_blank">National Association of Broadcasters</a> show, currently taking place in Las Vegas, Nevada. The biggest technology and media show in the world showcases all the latest announcements from all the major players in the industry &#8211; so far, the Film Live channel have produced content about releases from <a title="Livestream" href="http://www.nexi.tv/filmlive/2013/04/10/livestream-unveil-new-control-surface-device-at-nab-2013/" target="_blank">Livestream</a>, <a title="RED" href="http://www.nexi.tv/filmlive/2013/04/09/red-digital-cinema-unveils-the-red-dragon-6k-sensor-at-nab-2013/" target="_blank">RED</a>, <a title="Blackmagic Design" href="http://www.nexi.tv/filmlive/2013/04/09/4k-blackmagic-camera-at-nab-2013/" target="_blank">Blackmagic Design</a> and <a title="Sony" href="http://www.nexi.tv/filmlive/2013/04/08/sony-4k-beyond-at-nab-2013/" target="_blank">Sony</a>. But it was the focus that what was afforded to the future of content crafted for an online audience that was a first for the event &#8211; for the first time, NewTek&#8217;s Broadcast Minds discussion was afforded primetime space as a featured NAB<a title="Broadcast Minds @ NAB" href="http://nab13.mapyourshow.com/5_0/sessions/sessiondetails.cfm?ScheduledSessionID=1CAFCC" target="_blank"> event,</a> showing that NAB is realising just how important it is that content creation is discussed from a platform where everyone can take note.</p>
<p>Thanks to the combination of technology and a decent broadband speed, I was able to enjoy Broadcast Minds from the comfort of my armchair here at home in Birmingham, UK, live as it happened. Although I didn&#8217;t get to meet Tom Green (although Ben brushed shoulders with him as you can see) &#8211; I did get to enjoy the show from the comfort of my own home, one of the many advantages of live streaming.</p>

<p>The discussion was moderated by Jim Louderback, CEO of the Internet TV network <a title="Revision 3" href="https://revision3.com" target="_blank">Revision 3</a>. Magician Penn Jillette, MTV star and content creator Tom Green, Bruce Gersch of Fishbowl Worldwide Media and Shira Lazar of <a title="What's Trending" href="http://whatstrending.com" target="_blank">&#8216;What&#8217;s Trending</a>&#8216;. The focus of the discussion was based very much around the concept of ownership from the perspective of content creators, with the panelists arguing that Internet Television broadcasting has been brought closer to all as a result of falling prices of live production switchers and other production equipment needed to broadcast content online and of course, greater access to the Internet. Film Live revealed some important announcements from Livestream, who announced a whole line of affordable devices at NAB, and NewTek&#8217;s TriCaster 40 is its budget option for content creators.</p>
<p>The panel addressed the concept of freedom and ownership. Certainly, Internet Television allows one to escape the bonds placed upon them by traditional media platforms. Content can be viewed any time, any where, across multiple devices. As the panel noted, the days of waiting in for a show to start are well and truly over as people are now able to access their content whenever they want. Interestingly, and something I&#8217;d be inclined to agree with, Bruce Gersch argued that screen size was not important for accessing content online &#8211; however it is still relevant for certain forms of media, such as movies and sporting events. Certainly, one can imagine a thirst for a high quality viewing experience when watching the latest blockbuster or perhaps Game of Thrones. But with regards to online content, the main focus must always be around quality and interaction. More and more people are watching their content on tablets and mobile phones (40% of What&#8217;s Trending viewers consume the content on a mobile) &#8211; clearly, screen size is not a priority, finding content that one wants to watch, on their own terms, is the hunger which must be satisfied by content creators.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.nexi.tv/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/NAB2012-BroadcastMinds.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-2990" alt="Broadcast Minds" src="http://www.nexi.tv/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/NAB2012-BroadcastMinds.jpg" width="600" height="305" /></a></p>
<p>I was pleased to see the panel note the importance of watching TV via the internet, at home. When this becomes mainstream, (and all evidence points to this being the case), there will be no difference between accessing traditional media with internet content. This is what will ultimately bring Internet TV to everyone &#8211; even those who are perhaps older and not interested in watching programmes on mobile devices, and remain committed to their home TV and armchair. When Internet TV is mainstreamed, this group will also be confronted with a hole host of Internet TV options to explore. And it is then, in my opinion, when Internet Television networks and individual internet programming will truly explode.</p>
<p>The panel noted the hunger people today have for getting what they want &#8211; precisely when they want it. The concept of delayed gratification, according to Penn, is becoming obsolete as Internet TV production allows people to be entertained immediately. It is clear that it our new digital age the viewer truly is king, and content creators (and advertisers) should ignore this at their peril. And according to Tom Green, people are going to be given even more choice regarding their viewing options. He predicted that soon, bands will have their own channels, and content will become increasingly niche and specialised. This means that no matter what your interest is, the chances are highly likely that somewhere out there, a content creator or network will be producing content to satisfy that interest.</p>
<p>NAB&#8217;s product announcements that focus around streaming live and internet television production bring us ever closer to the Internet TV phenomenon becoming mainstreamed within all households, certainly within fortunate nations who have access to quality internet connections and relevant equipment. Looking forward to IBC 2013, it will be interesting to see if they concentrate their focus on the importance of content creation.</p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>The <a title="Film Live" href="http://www.nexi.tv/filmlive/">Film Live</a> crew are currently in Las Vegas covering the<a title="NAB Show" href="http://www.nabshow.com" target="_blank"> National Association of Broadcasters</a> event, the world&#8217;s biggest and most important annual conference and exhibition which brings together the cream of the media and entertainment industries for an epic six day run.</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.nexi.tv/filmlive"><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-3012" alt="Blackmagic 4K 600" src="http://www.nexi.tv/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/Blackmagic-4K-600-300x169.jpg" width="300" height="169" /></a></p>
<p>Although <a href="http://www.nexi.tv/filmlive/"><strong>Film Live</strong></a> has covered the <a title="IBC" href="http://www.ibc.org" target="_blank">International Broadcast Convention</a> in Amsterdam for the last three years, this is the first year the team have covered NAB. Ben and Mat touched down at Mccarran airport, Las Vegas on Thursday and have been covering the event daily.</p>
<p>This year, NAB are focusing considerable attention towards content creators, hosting a party on Sunday night exclusively for up and coming Internet TV producers. Naturally, Ben and Mat were there meeting with some talented content creators who might just be the next big thing online. It&#8217;s great to see such an important international event recognising the changing trends which see people migrate to watching quality content online and on demand.</p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>There&#8217;s only one thing that&#8217;s getting us more excited than this week&#8217;s Game of Thrones season three premiere &#8211; and that&#8217;s our first ever visit to the <a title="NAB show" href="http://www.nabshow.com" target="_blank">NAB show</a>, in Las Vegas which kicks off on Saturday 6th April!</p>

<p>We&#8217;re flying out on Thursday so there will be plenty of time to prepare. We&#8217;ll be creating some great content for <a title="Film Live" href="http://www.nexi.tv/filmlive/" target="_blank">Film Live</a>, and making sure our viewers get insights into new product launches hot off the press.</p>

<p>On Sunday April 7th, there&#8217;s going to be a Content Creator&#8217;s Party held at <a title="Body English" href="http://www.bodyenglish.com" target="_blank">Body English</a> nightclub. We are always looking to speak to quality content creators and it is great NAB has regonised that there is a need to provide a platform where content creators can all get together, drink too much and of course develop those essential connections and get down to some serious business! If YOU happen to be reading this blog, and going to be at the party, please drop us a line!</p>
<p>It&#8217;s going to be a crazy few days. Billie will be promoting the Film Live channel with gusto, ensuring that our content gets out there as quickly as possible. Meanwhile, Ben and Mat will be arranging and conducting interviews, editing, meeting potential partners everyday. On top of that, there&#8217;s a whole host of really cool parties to attend. Looking at the <a title="aftershow party list" href="http://www.nabshow.com/2013/highlights/official-afterparties.asp" target="_blank">aftershow party list,</a> we can see that NAB and Las Vegas certainly know how to party.</p>

<p>Well, this <a href="http://news.solvemedia.com/post/37787487410/native-advertising-in-context-infographic" target="_blank">infographic</a>, originating from Solve Media, aims to teach us exactly what it is. They&#8217;ve done a good job, as this particular infographic has been popping up on our Flipboard numerous times since it came into existence last year.</p>
<p>There&#8217;s been some <a href="http://mashable.com/2012/09/25/native-advertising/" target="_blank">confusion</a> over what Native Advertising is exactly, and this infographic explains, with no additional &#8216;fluff&#8217;, exactly what its all about-and why anyone who&#8217;s anyone in the Internet advertising business should be taking note. In today&#8217;s blog, we&#8217;re going to take the inforgraphic apart, piece by piece, and discuss it in further detail (because, as you might know, Native Advertising is one of our favourite topics here at NEXI HQ!).</p>
<p><em><strong>&#8220;Nobody reads advertising. People read what they want to read, and sometimes its an ad&#8221;</strong> </em>- Howard Luck Gossange, 1969</p>
<p>The infographic kicks off with this old, but so relevant it could have been spoken this afternoon, quote from Howard Gossange. Because now, more than ever, consumers can decide what they want to read. Simply, people aren&#8217;t drones, and they&#8217;ll only spend their precious time focussing on something if it is relevant to them. It&#8217;s also a great quote to begin to explain what Native Advertising is, because the very idea is all about <em>giving people what they want. </em>Savvy advertisers have cottoned on to the fact that they are wasting their time (and precious marketing revenue) if their message is not what their audience wants to read. That&#8217;s what it is so important that advertising is targeted, and relevant.</p>
<p>The infograpihc explains briefly just how far the internet has come since the days of newsgroups and &#8216;yahoo chat&#8217;. Online websites have evolved, become better, and are bolstered futhermore by online video. Broadband speeds have increased, allowing as to watch live events in real time, and allowing us to stream TV shows. And with all this activity, people are finding they have more and more choice over what they look at online. And this is why, as the piece suggests, user experience has become more and more important. Previously, online advertising was as prehistoric as the dreaded newsgroup, remember those dreaded, annoying, flashing banners which would offer you a discount on something you had absolutely no interet in whatsoever? Native Advertising cuts though all of this, giving web users adverts which are integrated into their online experience. As well as not being irratiing (always a plus!), they can even, dare I say, add to the user&#8217;s enjoyment online.</p>
<p>&#8220;Add&#8221; we heard you cry? &#8220;How can an advertisement add to one&#8217;s user experience?&#8221; Well, we aren&#8217;t suggesting ALL forms of advertising online are like this these days &#8211; far from it. However, Native Advertising using integrated sponsorship does, in our opinion, add the an end users experience. 70% of agency creatives now recgonise the importance of user experience. When this is supported by user friendly apps, the whole experience becomes far smoother. NEXI followers will know we are huge fans of the online integratied sponsorship model, because it uses trusted presenters to promote products which they really use themselves and believe in. This means that trust is facilitated, and the ad itself is ultimately part of the show.</p>
<p>But back to the infographic, as Native Advertising is far more than only integrated sponsorship utilising video (although we think, this is the best example of the model). Native Advertising also is related to sponsored tweets, sponsored facebook stories, and paid discovery. It&#8217;s related to longer form web video, web films, photo streams, and calls to action/&#8217;sponsored by&#8217;. What is the same, across the board, however, is that this type of advertising is intelligent, because it is specifically targeted. And it&#8217;s just as well, because traditional forms of advertising are fading away, as the infographic reveals. The click through rate enjoyed by banner ads has plummeted to a dismal .2% in 2012 from 9% in 2000. Need I say more &#8211; today&#8217;s savvy Internet user will not be fooled by a pop up. In fact, they are more likely to leave the site it is placed on entirely.</p>
<p>As with everything however, there are challenges for Native Advertising&#8217;s adoption. Whilst it is clearly the way forward, there are some pitfalls, which the infographic draws our attention to.</p>
<p>First up, its <strong>&#8216;Ad Standards</strong>&#8216;. There are currently no set standards or performance benchmarks for this form of advertising.</p>
<p>Secondly, <strong>&#8216;Product Efficiency&#8217;</strong>. Native Advertising is not the easy way out &#8211; it requires <em>creative</em> management to tailor content that&#8217;s best suited to the user. So &#8211; you need to <em>really</em> know your market.</p>
<p>Third up, <strong>&#8216;User Trust&#8217; </strong>- there&#8217;s a need to build and maintain trust with users, and this, bizarrely, is about being upfront and not disguising your ad as something other than an ad! Confused? Well, ads can work beleive it or not, but honesty is the best policy. So Native Advertising doesn&#8217;t attempt to deceive. For example, NEXI&#8217;s integrated sponsorship model involves products actually being introduced to the viewer by a trusted presenter. So its an ad&#8230;but not as you have seen in the past.</p>
<p>And finally&#8230;. &#8216;<strong>Brand Integrity&#8217;</strong>. Now is not the time to run into the sunset with just any content creation partner. If advertisers truly value their brand, its absolutely essential they work with content providers who provide content which matches the quality and ethos of their product and brand image. So, prestigious brands will not want to be affiliated with poor quality content!</p>
<p>These challenges require a bit of forethought, however they are actually the reasons why Native Advertising is so effective. A bit of thought and consideration for end users, ultimately, serves to benefit advertisers in the long run, and not anger their target audience!</p>
<p>So, how does one strategise this minefield? Well, Solve have attempted to help us out with that one too. They suggest <em>engaging</em> communications teams to roll out long term strategies, <em>augmenting</em> content creation by working with talented writers, designers and so on, and finally <em>contracting</em> with outside companies &#8211; creative agencies, content marketers, for example.</p>
<p>There we go, Native Advertising isn&#8217;t that hard to figure out. Ultimately, its not an easy way out, however forging a close relationship with consumers, and giving them what they want in terms of promoting products and providing content, is a far more effective tactic today. After all, if advertisers and content creators fail to work together to provide stellar content that&#8217;s targeted, their audience will simply spend their time elsewhere.</p>

This show is the UK&#8217;s largest health, beauty and wellness event and we were delighted to cover it &#8211; especially Billie, who left armed with goody bags.</p>

We were interested in the latest publication since it addresses a problem some of our viewers over at Gym Bunnies have asked for help about.  Marilyn addresses the question of why fat builds up around the stomach area and offers a practical action plan for tackling it. Fortunately, Marilyn assured us that regular exercise is as important as healthy eating tactics.</p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a href="http://news.yahoo.com/sxsw-chooses-tricaster-expand-reach-world-largest-film-050046082.html">NewTek TriCaster have been tasked with the challenge of ensuring a global audience can keep up with all the action at the SXSW festival &#8211; in real time.</a></p>
<p>Naturally, here at NEXI we have been keeping up to date with everything that&#8217;s been happening over at SXSW 2013. Although we weren&#8217;t able to attend in person this year, we have been able to watch live streamed keynotes and presentations thanks to the live streaming technology which has been provided by <a href="http://www.newtek.com/products/tricaster-8000.html">NewTek&#8217;s TriCaster</a> device. It&#8217;s been a great help to us, as relying on Twitter feeds doesn&#8217;t quite cut the mustard. Here, we stay up late in the office (hey, Texas is hours behind GMT!), grab our popcorn and iPads for note-taking, and keep up to date with all the key presentations.</p>

<p>Live streaming is perfect for people who cannot attend events in person, or for events which attract far more people then could physically be housed  inside a geographic location. Short of being able to attend, live streaming is the next best thing, and for us it has been a Godsend. Watching the streams is just like watching a regular TV show with clear audio and picture. Furthermore, the option to be able to edit live, which the TriCaster allows, means we aren&#8217;t left watching a simple one camera feed, but a far more interesting program which can incorporate multiple camera shots.</p>

<p>In addition to SXSW, it seems like others have also been eager for a slice of the action that can be offered by the TriCaster, with MTV, Techzulu and Monster Products, to name but a few, all using the TriCaster to stream shows, events and interview content live.</p>
<p>For obvious reasons, we at NEXI are huge TriCaster fans, simply because it can offer so much to Internet Television content producers in terms of broadcasting shows live, online. Of course, next year we&#8217;ll be at SXSW in person but for this year, live streaming has offered us the next best thing to actually being there.</p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I was browsing through some of my research archives this morning and came across this gem written by Charles Gabriel which was featured on Techcrunch back in December 2012 - <a href="http://techcrunch.com/2012/12/22/can-native-video-ads-work/">&#8216;Native Video Ads&#8217; Silicon Valley’s Shiny New Thing Or Industry Savior?</a> , and an earlier, somewhat slightly negative article entitled &#8216;<a href="http://pandodaily.com/2012/10/03/native-advertising-will-save-us-all-maybe/">Native Ads will save us all. Maybe</a>&#8216; authored by Erin Griffith.</p>
<p>For me, Gabriel really hit the nail on the head, as we would say here in the UK. His article outlines, clearly, what needs to be done to solidify Native Ads in the advertising world. Advertisers have been grappling with the concept of Native Advertising for some time, with many wondering if it is simply a gimmick, something which will pass us by. Like PDA devices. Remember those? Didn&#8217;t think so! Griffith&#8217;s article points out some issues with the concept, however as I will explain in this blog, its apparent problems are actually (in my view) its real benefits.</p>
<p><strong>The Importance of Quality Content</strong></p>
<p>Gabriel notes the importance of quality content with which advertisers can align themselves with. This is <em><strong>so</strong></em> important, as poor quality content can actually lower a consumer&#8217;s perception of a brand. Furthermore, Gabriel underlines the importance of gaining user trust-this simply cannot be achieved by associating with content that is of poor quality production value, or using adverts which are very obviously &#8216;hard sell&#8217; in style and/or completely untargeted. This is because people now can watch <em><strong>what they want</strong> </em>to watch, and you can bet your bottom dollor if they are confronted with something annoying, they will quickly look (or forage, to use our omnivore terminology!) elsewhere. Gone are the days where people were offered only a few options. Today, the stakes are higher, and the consumer is more in control by virtue of pure choice. So, one of the main reasons we at NEXI engage with professional presenters for our content is not only because we want to work with people how really know what they are talking about- but also because our audience will trust us,our sponsors, and return to watch the show again and again. This of course, is complemented by our high quality production values as well as using super-savvy presenters &#8230;.but hey, flattery aside, there&#8217;s just so much involved here.</p>

<p>It&#8217;s possible the whole concept of Native Advertising is, because it is quite new, is confusing to advertisers who have been used to traditional forms of communicating thier products to their market, which up until relatively recently was pretty contained. Furthermore, as a new buzzword, it can be used to relate to so many <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/digital-ad-world-unsure-about-native-ads-2013-3?utm_source=feedburner&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+typepad%2Falleyinsider%2Fsilicon_alley_insider+(Silicon+Alley+Insider">different elements</a>. The thing is, our avenue of native advertising, <b><i>online video based Native Advertising using quality content</i></b> , is a win-win concept <b><i>IF</i></b> done correctly.</p>
<p>Griffith criticises the concept somewhat:<br />
<i><b><br />
&#8220;&#8230;.native ads are not easily repeatable. The “set it and forget it” days of designing a standardized IAB-approved banner ad and sending to to 100 different ad exchanges won’t work for native ads. Creating effective native ads requires creating effective content, custom-tailored to whatever platform it will appear on. Content is difficult and expensive. It requires (expensive and slow) humans. It’s subjective. This is the achilles heel of native ads&#8221;</b></i></p>
<p>I would not argue against Griffith&#8217;s argument here. If it were so easy to create quality content, You Tube would be full of it and there would be far less <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wf_IIbT8HGk">kitty-cat videos</a>! In reality though, yes, quality content is hard to create. Studio sets up can, initially, be expensive. Presenters must be paid, scripts need to be written. But when it is there, it, blended with targeted, native advertising is, in my view, absolutely <b><i>invaluable</i></b> to advertisers. Griffith mentions subjectivity as something that is problematic, however I concur. <em><strong>Native Advertising is intelligent advertising</strong></em>. This means the ads must be <i><b>targeted towards a particular audience. </b></i>Now, human beings don&#8217;t operate in a vacuum, however crafting ads and content around a specific niche is always going to offer a marketing strategy which is more likely to resonate with the target audience. In addition, a huge benefit to be offered by Internet TV networks is that they create fantastic content-meaning the advertisers don&#8217;t have to. Although this has been a tactic used by some brands such as Red Bull, the reality is that not all companies will possess a budget, or will have a desire to create their own content. Thus, in this respect, companies such as NEXI take some of the hard work that is currently faced by advertisers in this changing climate.</p>

Today&#8217;s savvy internet user expects more. Content creators, working with marketing departments, need to deliver. Considering the rise of the multi-platform, Digital Omnivore species, who engage with such content, the benefits gained will be worth it.</p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>It would be a brave individual who would dare to counter the growing evidence that the way people consume TV is changing beyond recognition. We&#8217;ve been tracking these changes over the years but it seems that now advertisers are finally beginning to grasp the idea that new, creative, intelligent strategies are required if they want to remain ahead of the competition.</p>
<p>Gone are the days where the odd geek and more scuptulous individual used the internet for gaming or chatting. Today, Internet use is common place, as much as a part of our daily lives as household furniture-we use it daily, we expect it to be there&#8230;.but most of all, we expect it to be reliable and not let us down.</p>
<h2><strong>Digital Omnivore</strong></h2>
<p><a href="http://www.comscore.com/Insights/Presentations_and_Whitepapers/2011/Digital_Omnivores"><img class="aligncenter" alt="Comscore" src="http://www.nexi.tv/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/380915-300x190.jpeg" width="300" height="190" /></a></p>
<p>Today&#8217;s tech savvy generation of consumers have a higher expectation of what they can obtain from their time spent online. This new consumer, what I, and Donovan of <a title="Comscore" href="http://www.comscore.com/" target="_blank">Comscore</a> like to refer to as the <b><i>&#8216;Digital Omnivore&#8217;</i></b>, spends time consuming content using a variety of different devices. Donovan articulates the term well;</p>
<blockquote><p><b>“We are now entering a new digital era, an era where people are connecting with content and with brands through multiple screens &#8211; through their PC, TV, smartphone and media tablets, we call this the rise of the <a title="Digital Omnivore" href="http://www.comscore.com/Insights/Presentations_and_Whitepapers/2011/Digital_Omnivores" target="_blank">Digital Omnivore</a>” </b></p></blockquote>
<p>So, our D.O. uses technology in a variety of different ways, mimicking a sort of &#8216;grazing&#8217; type behaviour. He might use his PC to work, but his tablet to watch a movie in bed, or to dull away the hours spent communiting to work. The point is, however, people use the Internet to achieve multiple aims.</p>
<p>Indeed, consumer behavioural trends have been shifting over the last few years. According to the Communications Industry Forecast 2011-2015, adults spent 77 hours per person, on average, using mobile media in 2010 &#8211; an increase of 49.7% from 2009. Based on the rapid adoption of computer tablets by consumers and businesses, VSS forecasted a 35.3% increase in time spent with wireless media in 2011, reaching 104 hours per person. A 19.8% compound average annual growth rate was forecast through 2015, with consumer purchases of e-books, music, mobile applications, and streaming video driving the increase. This behavioral change was forecast to accelerate into 2012 by Comscore (Comscore, 2012; 22).</p>
<p>Traditional media has had to adapt to these changes. As well as terrestrial channels, such as the UK based BBC iPlayer developing an App for online viewing, people have begun to make thier own programmes from their own bedrooms or, if they have the means to do so, studios. Technology such as the <a title="TriCaster" href="http://pages.newtek.com/which-tricaster.html" target="_blank">TriCasters</a> produced by <a title="NewTek" href="http://newtek.com" target="_blank">NewTek</a> offer the opportunity for individuals to professionally edit and broadcast their content not only online, but in real time. This means that Internet television can be used to broadcast live events, including a <a title="MTV &amp; NewTek break records" href="http://www.creativeplanetnetwork.com/videography/news/mtvs-omas-call-upon-newtek-tricaster-make-music-history/59858" target="_blank">record breaking 24 hour music-marathon by MTV..</a></p>
<p>Content creation is not just for the rich and famous, but for everyone with access to an Internet connection! This is perhaps one of the biggest revolutions in television &#8211; the fact that the potential for many people to create content. This has allowed for hugely popular shows to pop up online which are not produced by terrestrial TV studios but rather, are produced by people sometimes in their own bedrooms!</p>
<p>However, this flood of increased levels of content have not came without their problems. There&#8217;s just so much content online, it can be difficult to discover high quality content, which is produced to match or exceed the quality that can be found of terrestrial TV. And these are the sorts of content types that image concious brands want to allign themselves with &#8211; not only that, the content needs to be relevative to the product of service they are hoping to sell.</p>
<h3><strong>The advertising must be Native</strong></h3>
<p><img class=" wp-image-2845 alignleft" alt="Love Ads" src="http://www.nexi.tv/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/keep-calm-and-love-ads-257x300.png" width="180" height="210" />Native Advertising is the current buzzword used to refer to any form of advertising that is innate, pertaining to or characteristic of the content around which it appears. This form of advertising has gained significant traction because it address the problem of<a title="Banner ad blindness" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banner_blindness" target="_blank"> banner ad blindness </a>and improves user experience. Although Native Advertising pertains to more than just online video ads, naturally we at NEXI focus on this (call us self-indulgent if you will!).</p>
<p>On Tuesday 26th Feb 2013, at the Interactive Advertising Bureau’s Annual Leadership Meeting in Phoenix, Arizona, Yahoo COO Henrique de Casto summed it up equistly in the following statement:</p>
<blockquote><p><b>&#8220;A lot of the industry is focusing on personalizing ads. The ad is a subfactor. The main factor is content. If you don&#8217;t get the content right, you won’t get the ad right because you don’t have the audience [without content]&#8220;</b></p></blockquote>
<p>All indicators suggest that the future of TV is in the midst of an exciting change &#8211; and advertisers are starting to realise this. At NEXI, content creation and user experience is of particular importance, however simply slotting an advertisement in the middle of the content is still not good enough, and indeed, can be disruptive and annoying for the end user. Rather, good online video advertising which is native uses a format whereby the advert is actually introduced by a professional presenter, thus minimising disruption and, because the ad is native, there is a very high chance viewers will want to watch it in any case.</p>
<p>I could write about these shifts for what seems like a lifetime, such is the exponential growth of content online and the insatiable appetite for it. However, we cannot deny that we are currently existing in exciting times for content creators and advertisers alike. If done correctly, Native Advertising, utilising the power of video entertainment online, can offer considerable benefits to individuals and companies across the world. 				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>NEXI were at the opening day of BVE2013 yesterday. We had a great time checking out all the latest production gear and catching up with some stalls we have spent time with in the past (Hello <a title="NewTek" href="http://www.newtek.com" target="_blank">NewTek</a> and <a title="Atomos" href="http://www.atomos.com" target="_blank">Atomos</a>!!).</p>
<p>Ben and Mat were able to have a good try-out of the NewTek TriCaster 455 &amp; 855 production switcher, a must buy for Internet Television producers. Although Ben has been a big fan of TriCaster for years, the device was new for Mat, who had only ever heard about it from Ben. Finally he got the chance to see its impressive features and benefits for himself. Sadly, we weren&#8217;t able to catch up again with the lovely Carter, who we had <a title="Tricaster 40" href="http://www.nexi.tv/filmlive/2012/09/16/newtek-tricaster-40-at-ibc-2012/">met and interviewed previously at last year&#8217;s IBC for Film Live </a>- although I&#8217;ve been chatting to him over Twitter. A meet up for <a title="NAB" href="http://www.nabshow.com" target="_blank">NAB</a> will be on the cards!</p>
<p>I settled down and enjoyed a demo led by Don Ballance and Kiki Stockhammer, showing the audience all the features on the TriCaster system in an interesting live presentation.</p>
<p>Over at <a title="Atomos" href="http://www.atomos.com" target="_blank">Atomos</a>, sushi was being made by a pro sushi chef, which I was especially impressed with, being a hardcore sushi fan. When we hooked up with CEO, Jeromy Young and his crew at IBC last year, I had a portrait drawn of me &#8211; as a Samurai!, as there was an artist at the stand. But back to more serious matters &#8211; there&#8217;s going to be some very exciting announcements coming from Atomos later on in the year &#8211; we can&#8217;t wait to check out their new products.</p>
<p>We also had a look at Black Magic Design, <a title="Black Magic Design Digital Cinema Camera" href="http://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/blackmagiccinemacamera/" target="_blank">who had their 2K Black Magic Cinema Camera on display</a>. In fact, there was so much to see and do we are heading back again tomorrow, for the final day of the show.</p>

<p>I noticed that the <a title="Oscers" href="http://oscar.go.com" target="_blank">Oscars</a> are being streamed live this evening (well, early morning for us here in the UK)!</p>
<p>Obviously, this bring huge benefits in terms of being able to know instantaneously who has the must have dress this year, and who scooped the prestigious best actor/actress gong. But the joys of live streaming aside, the actual viewing of the Oscars, in effect, a TV program, online is yet another indicator of the growing popularity of watching content over the Internet.</p>
<p><a title="The Grammys" href="http://www.grammy.com" target="_blank">The Grammys</a> was also an indicator of behavioural change, with <strong>750,000</strong> people watching the show in real time online and <strong>24 million</strong> engaging in social media in order to interact with others and air their views.</p>
<p>This year, the Oscars can be consumed via mobile devices thanks to the <a title="Oscar Mobile App" href="http://oscar.go.com/blogs/oscar-news/official-oscars-app" target="_blank">introduction of an App</a>, allowing people to watch on smartphones and tablets. This shows an acknowledgement of a demand from consumers (or as I and Comscore like to term them,<b><i> <a title="Digital Omnivores" href="http://www.comscore.com/Insights/Presentations_and_Whitepapers/2011/Digital_Omnivores_Key_Insights_into_Todays_Connected_Consumer_Webinar" target="_blank">Digital Omnivores</a></i></b>) to be empowered to access content on a platform of their choosing.</p>
<p>In case you weren&#8217;t sure, the Digital Omnivore is an interesting new breed of savvy consumers who access content via several ‘touch points’ throughout the course of their daily lives (Comscore,2012). Consumer’s embracement of tablet and smartphones have drastically altered the nature to which, how frequently, and where they access content online, as, they turn increasingly towards the Internet as a form of entertainment as well as information assimilation (Comscore, 2012).</p>

<p>Unfortunately, I won&#8217;t be using the App this year as it&#8217;s currently only avaliable to viewers in the US. Maybe next year the App will be rolled out internationally, providing its principal sponsor, (who this year is AT&amp;T), with International reach.</p>
